The setting of large exterior windows or closed balcony in south walls of multistoried residences in Lhasa actually serves as passive solar houses do. Tests the indoor thermal environment and outdoor temperature for this kind of typical building. The results indicate that when the outdoor temperature is about 0 ℃ and the average solar radiant intensity is about 0.45 kW/m2, the minimal and average indoor temperature of this building can reach up to about 14 ℃ and 15~16 ℃ respectively, which can meet the basic demand of human thermal comfort; that the effect of curtain opening or closing is not remarkable to the minimal indoor temperature but obvious to the average indoor temperature; and that the over heat is not found in summer.
